Hotpot, Mooncake is a public art commission installed at the University of Oregon’s Unthank Dining and Residence Hall. The title refers to the Chinese hotpot, a communal dining experience where people gather around a simmering pot of soup and cook a variety of ingredients, and the mooncake, a Chinese pastry traditionally eaten and given as gifts during the Mid-Autumn Festival. Hotpot, Mooncake is a playful homage to communal feasts, celebratory sweets, and the tidal pull of the moon.
